Once, an ex-boyfriend told me that he didn’t want to burn his bridges with me and that was one of the reasons why he was apologizing about past indiscretions and our failed relationship, and he wanted to remain friends. My response: I’ll accept your apology but pass on being associates.
The saying “Don’t burn your bridges” is such a cliché and, honestly, we all could stand to “trim the fat” from our lives. There are people (colleagues, friends & family) that will only negatively impact you and keep you from a rich, fulfilled life. The tricky part is knowing how to dissolve the relationship under more amicable terms and avoid making mortal enemies.
